Not very good definitions (and the def.s above is untrue when talking about tesseras).

Heterozygous is when both there are two different genes in a gene pair(independent of the phenotype).
Homozygous is when both genes in a gene pair are identical.

Heterozygous is when both there are two different genes in a gene pair .
If the two different genes in an het animal are as dominant as the other then the animal will look as in between both genes like in ultra amels.
If one of the two genes are more dominant than the other (that is the other is more recessive) then the animal will look more like like whats predicted from the dominant gene.
