To moss box or not?

Hi

Brian has started to show signs of getting ready for his first shed since he came to us. He has access to two water bowls, a full size one in which he could soak if he wants and a little one at the other end of his viv. Should I also introduce a moss box, or should the bowls be sufficient? The viv has four vents on it and the warm end is 30 degrees in the day time and 27 at night.

Many thanks

Hi I’ve got a snake caves my 2 love it I call it there steam room

A corn will use a large water bowl to help prepare for a shed. Mine use the water bowl both before and right after a shed. If you prefer to use a moist hide with sphagnum moss they will use that too. However, bacteria is found on everything, especially in a confined area such as in a vivarium. I swap out their water bowls for disinfected water bowls frequently, especially during the shed period. I would dispose of the used sphagnum after the shed.

All useful, thanks very much. I may give him both this time and see if he has a preference.

Still lurves the moss box! His personality is coming out. Not handling him at the moment cos he’s been fed and is in blue, but he’s becoming more adventurous within the viv and I think he’s gaining confidence which is lovely to see.

All my snakes use their humid hides with sphagnum moss. They sometimes go in there between sheds but definitely use them during shed. Keep them clean. While mine have rarely pooped in any of their hides it has happened. You can always do the sniff test. You'll smell it if he's soiled it. I'm so happy for you and Brian. Keep us posted.

Thanks. He loves it so much that I may have to remove it surgically when he’s shed!!!

Brian is currently doing very well and looks particularly fine following his shed. He’s still a little nervous but I’m working on gaining his confidence. Once I’ve got hold of him (the difficult bit as he moves like greased lightening!) he seems to be quite happy. He’s starting to explore the interesting things in his viv more, now, so I think we’re getting there!

Hi sounds like Brian doing really well
My zuzees still a bit shy but fine when she’s being Handel
Keep up the great work with Brian
