I haven't heard of putting them in the dark to feed, but it does make sense. I've only had mine a few weeks and the last time he fed was while high in the tank in a fake plant. So far so good. He get's fed tonight and was once again in his high spot this morning. He's either buried in aspen or perched in a plant.
