Ewwww. Guts!

So today was feeding day. And so I got the fuzzies out. I thawed them out like always. Well, I heated the water just a tad bit higher... (so they could thaw out faster)..or so I thought. When I took the mice out of the water, the mice were super hot! So I let them sit out and cool down. They were warm enough to where I thought the snake would be safe. And I had noticed the stomach of the fuzzie had slit a little bit. But I didnt pay much attention to that. Well the day the fuzzie is cut open, Bartholomew decides to constrict the poor thing (His first constriction!) And all the guts spill out onto his body and his neck. At that point I was shocked that he had constricted, and that he had mouse guts all over him. So I said "I have to clean his tank anyways". So I guess he read my thougths or something because next thing I know. He's wiping the guts all over the hides and the water dish and it just got me mad. But I was also happy he knew how to constrict. Had to share this story.
Has any mess like this ever happen to you guys?

My boyfriend tried to tease-feed my rosy boa once. He's really squeamish about dead mice, but he loves that snake so much he was determined to try and feed him. I guess he was trying not to look at the mouse and he squeezed the tongs so hard that he popped the mouse's guts open. It smelled awful. Don't think that did much to get him over his fear of dead rodents (nor did it convince Ambrose to eat the mouse).

Hehe, my Indigo bites the mice hard enough to pop them sometimes, it's gross.

Haha probably. It looks like he taunts me whenever I'm cleaning his tank. Like he's saying "Haha! Thats right... clean my house!" And he stares at me with thoes big red eyes.

Haha, wow really? I didnt know a corn snake bite could be so powerfull. Of course, I wouldent know because Ive never been bitten :dancer:

He's not a corn, he's an Indigo snake, and they kill with their bite. Not a snake to be tagged by if you can avoid it!!! Corn bites are much less painful!

Nono, it's all good, I realized later that I should have been more specific!!

My snakes wont eat the mice if they have guts on them. It was funny my new baby grabbed a pinkie that was all slimy with guts and wrapped around it. She kept biting it like she wanted to eat it but would spit it back out. So, I went and got her a clean one and had to tease her a little with it to get her to let go of the messy one and grab the clean one. She ate the clean one with no prob and I had to throw the messy one away because no one would eat it!

Haha, I hate when you have to throw their food away. It hurts my heart. Haha jk.

Benchley the cali king bites or squishes food hard enough that it often "leaks". This does not impair his enjoyment of his food at all.

It happens to me every once in a while. Nearly all my snakes will eat mice with guts, mice in pieces, whatever I give them! I always feed in a feeding bin, and if a mouse explodes, I give the snake a rinse under the faucet before putting it back. Mouse guts stink!!

Whisper has taken to seriously "killing" her mice lately-- she'll constrict them for a minute or so before she eats them, squeezing harder in pulses. And yes, she has produced what I like to refer to as "giblets". Random globs of who-knows-what. She also popped one's eye out once, which I thought was impressive. The only time this was a problem was once when a fair portion of the "giblets" got on her side, and, well, she was in hunting mode. I sort of towelled her off with a piece of paper towel held in the tongs before she actually decided that she herself would be delicious. She was considering it. Luckily, she's clever enough that she didn't actually chomp herself.

She weighed about 90 grams when she did this. It occurs to me to be slightly terrified of what she'll be able to do to them when she's full-grown, and also very glad that I feed them in a separate, empty tank.

So far, I haven't had to deal with that, with my snakes...my ferrets on the other hand...won't eat mouse guts. They eat everything *except* & often either leave the guts on the floor in their cage, or fling them out of the cage.
Needless to say, they get fed in their cage, so I don't find guts in random places around the room, & I have curtains hung on the back of the cage so I no longer have to scrape guts off the wall...

A few of mine will constrict with such force and for so long that they will burst the mice open and squeeeeeezzzzeee stuff out. Usually they manage to still get most of it into their mouths somehow but occasionally, as Nanci said, they will require a quick tempid rinse off before being returned to the viv for digestion.

I know, I know. I have stopped doing that. I feed him in a box that is escape proof. I didnt want to buy another tank and I never had time to buy a plasic tub. Its all good though. And, when I did feed him in the tank, I use to put this small plate on the bottom so he wouldent eat any of the aspen.

I left my snake like that for a while untill I was able to hold him again. I have this huge fear of the snake regurgetating. I just make sure the mice are nice and sealed.
