WOOOT BARRACK OBAMA

Wow... I was so happy this morning when I turned on the news. It's kind of hard to believe, in a good way.

I mean, if you like him or not, he made history, and I think that it's amazing that he went through with the election and won.

True! Arnold Scwarzeneggar was making fun of his scrawniness.
Well, it is over and like him or not he is our new pres. I had hoped those who voted against him could be as gracious about the defeat as McCain was in his concession speech, but I guess that is asking too much.
Sorry if this is a DP, but I didn't see this one.

Here's my schtick... I voted against him, but I'm still an American and he will be my President. I will respect him and his office, BUT, I also have every right to disagree with whatever policies he proposes that I don't like. I have every right to be vocal (or not) about those policies.

THIS is much different and more generous than what I've seen from others (even here) regarding our current President... who I ALSO have much disagreement with.

I'm glad you respect his office and agree with what you've written for the most part, but after 8 years of Bush ( whom I did NOT vote for) I think I have the right to be a little more than un-generous with what he's done to this country and the world as a whole. Thousands of American soldiers and innocents have died and been maimed as a direct result of a decision he made based upon fabricated evidence that he promoted! He IS a war criminal.
If in four or eight years...If Obama does anything similiar, I WILL also be more than un-generous with him as well, actually more so because I voted for him.
He hasn't even taken the oath and people have decided that he isn't "their" president, and that they're leaving the country ( the grass is always greener...) and they won't give his presidency a chance!

Don't forget Bush alone isn't responsible for the "past 8 years" nor for the war in Iraq. Obama alone will not be responsible for whatever direction the country takes in the next 4 either.

Yup, Yup, the guy who signs bills into law, is not the same as the entity that writes the laws....

Fred, it's good to see we have the same "schtick".

I voted for President Bush in 2000.

I did NOT vote for President Bush in 2004.

I voted for President-Elect Obama yesterday.

I consider both men "my President", as this is MY country (hey, that should be a song!). And when I disagreed with President Bush, I've made my disagreements known.

And I will continue to do so with President Obama. I consider it a sacred civic duty, as it were.

Hell, I'll even get the ball rolling:

I am disappointed in President-Elect Obama's selection of Rahm Emmanuel as his Chief Of Staff. I don't care for Mr. Emmanuel at all.

That said, I look forward to your written disagreements with President Bush.

Ooooh, oooooh! The other one I love is how, you know when they like talk about Bush and how he's so deftly orchestrated the downfall of American society and culture and like, everything . . . but then turn around and talk about how stoooopid he is. That's always a good one. ;)

point taken. He alone is not responsible, but tends to take the heat as the figurehead, part of the job I guess...

Wait, CANADA? The socialist bogeyman to the north? The place of restrictive gun control, federal waste, a forgotten military and freezing temperatures?

Your answer to dissatisfaction with a Democratic win is to move to Canada. Irony all up ins today.

Oh and don't forget universal healthcare, a devalued dollar, a minimum wage and social assistance.

Seriously...as I read these posts both here and in the other thread I think there is one thing that has been forgotten. Internationally, the U.S. has taken a huge step towards gaining more respect and assuring the world that democracy does work. Our neighbours to the south have chosen a new leader; there are many folk in peace loving nations around the world that will now sleep much better at night knowing we won't be called upon to engage ourselves in combat to support our ally simply to satisfy the 'whims' of self serving politicians south of the border.

A new age has dawned...one that I believe will lead to a better, more peaceful world...and we have YOU, the American voters, to thank for it.

Just an outsider, looking in...

Let us not forget that just about every nation in NATO agreed with that evidence... so it wasn't only GW.

Also, how many celebrities said the same when GW won in '00 and '04? Alec Baldwin... Gwyneth Paltrow... Johnny Dep (who disgustingly bad-talked HIS president while IN FRANCE)? In hindsight and the way things played out... okay - understandable at least... but did they give him a chance BEFORE he took office. BTW, they're still HERE... LOL.

As for those who threaten to leave... I understand their anger and angst... but what BETTER country would they go to? I think they'd be hard pressed to find one that isn't already where Obama wants to take us.

Well, I do think that he and his advisors mis-managed the Iraq war... but that has turned around recently. I don't disagree with ridding the world of Saddam... Probably should have done more to get Osama bin Laden.

I feel that he did not "inspire" us and did little to try. We basically heard the same "drum-beat" over and over... and it got old... which is why I think we're where we are now...

I was waiting for the revamping and simplification of our tax code... which is one of the BIG reasons I voted for him. It is SAD that I can take my tax papers to 4 different preparers and get 4 different answers (that get accepted). Even worse... if I prepared a 5th myself and submitted that instead of the other 4, it could be WRONG & I would be penalized for it. LOL. Get REAL. Tax code should be simple. It shouldn't take a degree for someone to figure out their taxes... AND have it turn out the same whether 2 people do it or 100!

There's more... but we'd be hijacking a thread... as if we haven't already! Sorry OP!

What I meant about McCain and the speech was that he was accepting that Obama would be a new leader and there was not any hint of "I should have won" whining or any kind of negativity. That speech actually moved me a lot and I was impressed. I am registered to vote as an independent and I look at the candidates and what they stand for rather than voting a straight party line. I actually liked McCain but as soon as he chose his running mate there was no way I was going to vote for him.
Anyway this is history being made here and for better or worse the majority has elected Obama and he is our new President. I don't expect anybody to blindly agree with everything he says or does or not try to dissuade him from policy if they don't agree with him. I have seen on other sites things like people wanting to go to Australia or Canada now that their candidate lost. But to go so far as to say you would leave the country because of this, or anything so drastic, well I also have to ask where are you going to go that is better than here?
At least let the guy take office and do his thing for a bit before you judge him one way or the other.

Amen, Jen! The very fact that we can discuss this topic freely is a testament to how great our country is. American's ROCK! (and no offense to our UK friends...I've never been, but no offense is intended.) I liked things about both candidates, and disliked things about both. I'm also registered as an independent. It's going to be a few years before we can really see the kind of stuff Obama is made of. In the meantime, I think it's safe to say we're all ready for a change. Bring it!
