Driftwood prep

Hello! I collected some driftwood last year and I’m ready to use them redesigning some vivs. Do I still need to bake them even though they have been through several hard freezes this winter? Thank you!

I would bake them, it's a sensible precaution. Freezing doesn't kill all bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Some may wonder why it is important to disinfect, as corns in the wild come into contact with them all the time. That is true, however, we don't know what effect bacteria, viruses, and fungus have on the wild population. The best info I can find usually centers around survival rates, but that includes loss due to predators.

I boil my driftwood as much as possible (turn, rinse, repeat) to get as much salt out as I can, then I bake them when dry. They seem to get harder and last longer, too.
