A question about bedding.

So I have the option/opportunity to purchase 70lbs bags of wood shavings for $5.00 a pop. Shavings are from maple (not red maple) birch and ash. I'm currently uncertain if these are mixed bags, but I'll make sure to find out before I buy. I was wondering if these are safe to use for my ASF colonies?

Are these just shavings from a wood shop swept off the floor or are they made for the sole intent of being substrate?

If it is just swept/cast-off shavings I would pass. You have no idea if the wood was treated or diseased. You are better off paying a few more bucks for what you can rely on, and it is one of the cheapest parts of owning a snake.

These were made with intent to use as animal bedding. I wouldn't be using it for my snake, but rather for my ASF colonies.

Ahhh, I just looked up AFS, I had no idea of what they were!

With rodents I think they would be fine, especially if you know it is disease and critter-free.
