Signature Areas: Reminder

I just sent a friendly reminder to one of our newer members concerning the four-line signature area limit rule. But then I opened a thread, and saw that a large number of members (new AND old) had sig areas exceeding four lines. This site's owner/admin set this limit, so if your sig exceeds four lines (blank lines count too), please correct it when you get a chance.

Geez...give a man an inch and he thinks he's a ruler, eh, Roy? ;) :flames:
Off with your head! :grin01:

But seriously... the new member I referred to in the OP had something like 20 lines in their sig. Even before the mod appointments, I'd remind newer members of the four-line rule now and then. But then I saw a bunch of 5+ line sig areas, and I thought that it wouldn't seem fair to the person I PM'd if I didn't address these too. I don't think a five-line sig area is the biggest deal in the world, but where do you draw the line? Luckily, this isn't a real dilemma for me because Rich has already drawn the line... :)

I know you weren't asking for an explanation, but I thought I'd give one anyway. I also wanted to clarify that I wasn't looking for an opportunity to "flex some mod muscle"... ;)

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Roy Munson again.
Thank you Dean

I need to spread around a little more reputation before I can give it to you again, Dean. I am right there with you on the signature deal. 5 lines doesn't seem like a big deal, but, as you said...the line has been drawn, and some people do have awfully large signatures.

I was just giving you a hard time. I am actually quite happy with the mods that were elected, and I don't really foresee any of the 3 of you's being powerhungry in the near future.

Just wondering...should the four line signature include spaces? I've seen at least one member that has only 4 typed lines, but has spaces between some of them that make the actual signature exceed the limit. And since Rich made the limit to reduce the space used in each post, I'm going to say the limit includes spaces.

Yes, it does include spaces.

I want to keep the SIZE of the signature are down to four lines. That means that a BLANK line is STILL a line of horizontal space taken up. FOUR lines of text, which includes blank lines as well, are the maximum for each signature area.

Thanks for the reminder btw, Dean

You need to understand the key words in what you said Ty........ "in the near future" ... What about long term? I foresee these three being sticklers for the rules just so they can facilitate an ongoing and upcoming tyrannical dictatorship. You guys think it's fine now with these false profits with their blind promises. Today signatures, tomorrow what? No more smilies? These guys are so transparent I can see right through them. They come to you with smiles and promises, wanting to hold your baby snakes and promising a 72 bin baby rack in every snake room and so on.....blah! I can see a conspiracy starting to unfold a mile away. I bring up the signature problem in another thread and I am almost ostracized and when Dean brings it up he's the best thing since sliced bread. Anyone with a brain can see collusion when it is happening even in it's most subtle form. You are all sheep and a wolf is the shepard if you can't see this unfolding in front of your eyes. I can not and will not stand by idly and let this happen to us. We need to join together and overthrow this power hungry, mis-guided government now while we still have a chance. "POWER TO THE HERPERS!" "LET THE POSTERS DECIDE!" :grin01: :sidestep:

Whew! Now that I got that out of my system I must say we couldn't have voted in a better group of mods. Finally we have people to watch the forums that will make sure that the rules of this site are followed. Again, congratulations to you three for willing to take on this thankless job. You have PJCReptiles support 100%.

Sounds like a Mohrsnakes supporter. They're worse the PETA! :sidestep:

It won't become a tyrannical dictatorship until after I figure out how to permanently ban Dean, Mike, and most importantly, Rich. :dgrin: :sidestep:

Now I'm curious, what is used to count the four lines? Is it how the sig is viewed on the browser? The number of lines the sig fills before being submitted (which would include the bbc code used).

The reason I ask is because for those who have a 'wrap' around sig it takes up a different number of lines depending on how wide the browser is opened on any given monitor.

I'm not looking to questions your authority, Oh Mighty One, but I would like to know as my sig might be over on some people's PC's but not on mine! of course, I realize that not everyone has a 20-21" monitor to view the forums on! lol...

Jenn

Jenn, I think my laptop screen is 14"- and you only have three lines. Looks good to me!

I too have always wondered that... somtimes my signature is 5 lines on my laptop... On this 19" its 4. But I have seen people with over the limit sigs on the laptop before aswell, and its fine on this computer. What about those poor unfortunate souls with 12" screens!?

Good questions, Jenn and Elle. On my laptop monitor, my sig line is two lines, but I'm on a different pc at the moment and it's 4 lines (well, 3 lines + a little on the 4th line).

I guess the best guideline is to do what you can to limit your sig to four lines or less with your own browser/pc setup. I know I'm not going to be clicking around counting lines and sending off dozens of PMs. Some are very obviously way over the limit, and they should be reduced. If your sig area includes half the lyrics to your favorite song, or all 22 of your pets listed one per line, then you probably need to take care of it. ;)

I think the point is to be responsible about your signature. 3 lines, 4 lines, 5 lines...what's the difference, really. I don't think Rich and Dean are going to spend a whole lot of time with 4 different computers each, all with different size monitors to see whom is breaking the rules.

But, if you have a signature that is 10 lines long...there is no mistake. You know your signature is too big, so fix it. Unless you have a 72" monitor, of course...

I have seen a few signatures that are pushing the 10 line mark. Those are the ones, I think, that will cause issues. Not the ones that are so close they are 4 lines on one PC and 5 on another.

But then again...I'm not the boss here. I'm just a lowly servant to the rulers up on high. I bow at thine feet, oh great Roy Munson, mbDorfer, and Susan. Thou shalt rule with impunity...or an iron fist...or something :D...

If I can't beat them with aggression, I will kill them with kindness...and sarcasm...

And if that doesn't work, well then...I may just have to settle for playing nicely. But I don't have to like it ;)... :wavey:

Sounds good to me! If it looks like an obvious and blatant disregard for the rules, you'll hear from one of us, and pray it isn't me as I'll be armed! :madeuce:
