"I'm shedding...sike!"

About 2 weeks ago I noticed that the large scale on my snakes "forehead" looked like it was starting to shed. The edges of the scale are white and the top layer appears to be lifting up a little. I never saw a color change in his eyes or body, but I figured amel+newb=probably won't see it. I made him a moist hide that he rarely left for 3 days straight. He never showed any more signs of shedding so I took the moist hide out to avoid any problems. So, 2 weeks later the scale still looks the same and he still hasn't shed. I'm not real worried just a little miffed that I couldn't figure it out on my own. Any ideas?

1.0 amel mot, 9 months, 26g
temps 79-82*F, 32% humidity (just started misting every night)
eating 2 f/t pinks every 5 days
20L viv, aspen bedding

Haha...I think thats all the questions right...

I tried to get pics but the scale in question wouldn't come into focus

Another fellow buckeye! hahah

Hmmm. I'm not quite sure what could be wrong with your snake's forehead. Sounds odd. Does he climb around a lot? My amber climbs to the top of his viv and has (on rare occasion) done a little damage to scales on his dorsal side.

Misting sounds like a good idea though. It could just be a really dry patch on him. It doesn't really sound like scale rot. Perhaps it will correct itself in the next shed. *shrug*

Nope but now that I think about it he is a compulsive burrower...would the constant rubbing do that to his head?

Yeah, with Aspen it could. If it does not get better after the next shed you may want to find a vet.

He is 9 months and weighs 26 grams?! When did you get him and from where?

I got him from a breeder near me. I have had him for a month now and hes gone from 18 to 26 grams. She was feeding him 1 pinkie every 7 days. Hes on 2 pinks every 5 days and moving up to fuzzies in the next week or so.

That explains the weight. Alright, just keep him on a steady diet and I'm sure he'll grow like a weed!

Well, Sixx has been in blue for a couple days now. I guess I should put his moist hides back in. I'll keep an eye on his head to see if it happens again after this shed. Thanks again everybody!
