June Herping in NE Ohio

An Eastern Milk Snake that probably hatched last year.


The largest frog in the land, a male American Bullfrog.


A shy but colorful Midland Painted Turtle.


Northern Dusky Salamander.


A Northern Dusky Salamander in its natural habitat - South Chagrin Reservation.


An Eastern Garter Snake sporting a bit of orange coloration.


A Common Snapping Turtle crossing the path at Ira Road Trailhead.

Sometimes herps will let you walk right up to them and take their photo, like this Pickerel Frog did.


A "magic snake board" that had more than 30 serpents underneath it.


A backyard Redback Salamander.


A Northern Ringneck seen in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.


Adult American Toad found near a creek.


Brown Snake seen at Brown's Lake Bog Preserve.

The most commonly seen herp in the summertime around here - a Green Frog.


A young Eastern Milk Snake "as found" near the city of Wooster.


The "reptile ruler" of its domain - Common Snapping Turtle hanging out in the Ohio & Erie Canal.


Northern Water Snake in Chippewa Creek.


This is the time of year when toad tadpoles metamorphose.

Great pics! I love the "magic snake board"! I once found a similar board in South Carolina that had about a dozen hognose snakes underneath it.

Beautiful photos. I wish I could find a magical snake board! Also, I love that first Eastern milk - it's so red.

Great bunch of photos. So far in Ohio I've seen two snakes!
