I got home today and notice both mom and dad corn when out cruising their tanks, which is odd for them. At most you get a periscope in the afternoon. I then go to the incubator and there are pippies.
I wonder if some sort of pheromones are released when pipping happens.
Corn eggs do seem to give off a distinctive odour that humans can sense (I smell it as green peppers), so it must be easily detected by other animals. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the adults can "smell" the eggs hatching - but it may be more of a dinner gong for them!
My adults (and other hatchlings) have been going crazy. I think it is all the activity every afternoon in the kitchen- they think it's feeding day! But the egg container _does_ have a smell to it when the babies hatch. Not an unpleasant smell.
