Romeo and Juliet

Here are my teacher's snakes. The female laid 11 nice healthy eggs that should be hatching any day now. They are so swollen that they are separating from each other instead of staying in one clump. I can't wait!!

This is Romeo. I guess you could classify him as a sunglow

And here is the lovely Juliet. THey are usually curled up together all cute and adorable but she felt like staying near the water bowl today. Maybe tomorrow I'll get another pic. :)
I'm getting first pick of their babies :D. I'm going to try to get a female with a cool head pattern. :)

Cool,
you even get to keep the babies that your teachers's pet hatch? When I was in grade 6 my teacher had a snake too and she laid eggs and all was well.....the eggs hatched....but then for some reason they babies soon died......

it was a wild caugh garter. I did get to take the babies and the mom home for the weekend.....but not as luck as you are.....getting to keep them.....

Post some pics soon!

Good Luck and Happy Herping!

garter eggs??

Simon,
Garters don't lay eggs; they are live bearers. I know, I'm being 'nit-picky.'
I'll give ya a call tonight, and we can talk some gutatta.:)

Well after school today I was on my way to math extra help (regents are coming up!) and this guy comes into the classroom and says,"The eggs are hatching!!" well I dropped all my things and grabbed my camera and ran into the room with the incubator and sure enough, they were pipping! I stayed for an hour and half watching as 4 healthy, beautiful amels hatched out. One had a rather big slit in it but the neonate wasn't peeking out so one of the overeager boys pulled the egg open and forced the snake out...even though 3 other people were like, "no, don't bother him. Leave it alone." but no he went and opened the egg and now that poor little baby is very still and not flicking his tongue out..he only reacts if you touch him and he twitches but I think he's going to die..I hope not! :(
Well luckily I brought my digicam AND charger to school today to take pics of my friends and I took some pics of the babies. I will post some hatchling pics here.

This is the baby I'm worried about...I hope he makes it!!

Really cool Iris. I told you they'd be pretty amels.
School in the summer? Ahhh...
You must have on cool teacher though... and you should have smacked that kid and stopped him. You never force them out! Well... let us see some more pics of the one you choose.

final picture :) Four healthy ones already and that one that worries me = 5 so far and then there are 6 eggs left. I hope there will be 6 more happy, healthy hatchings tomorrow morning! (today is 6/11/02)

Oh no! You should NEVER pull them out of an egg. Pulling them out of an egg could easily kill them..... I really hope that the little thing is going to be alright. As Cornsnakekeeper said, you should smack him when he did it. Only open the eggs after a long time once the others has hatched before opening it yourself. But then as you side that it pimped the eggs, it should be able to get out by itself once it thinks it's alright and not by someone who just wants to get it out.....If eggs that are not pimped after a long time it's brothers and sisters are hatched out then go on and try opening it because it might not have the strength to pimp the egg or it's missing it's egg tooth.....and still surviving in the egg....but that is not unitl a very long time!

Nice little amels!

Also keep us updated on the pulled out one!

Joe: Well then I guess that the teacher told labelled it wrong then....cause he was telling me that it was a garter and that it was wild caugh near a river and that it should eat gold fish. The snake did acutally eat the gold fish. I have no info garters at all, well I guess that I have learned something just now. Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon! (I mean on the phone and hope to see you in the expo)

Good thing that you had your camera there! Hope to see more little hatchlings tomorrow!

I used a different function (on my digicam) for this shot. Their true color is somewhere in between this and the last photo.

The last 2 hatched today. That makes a 100% hatch rate! 11 out of 11. This is Juliet's second year breeding and last year there was also a 100% hatching. Is it Romeo or is it Juliet..? Well either way, I am very happy. :)

A bunch of snakes in my friend's hands.

Nice!!!

Good thing that the one that got pulled out is alright. Very good thing to hear.

Just love those little ones!

Yes, all 11 are heathy and active.
I am taking one home this week as soon as they all shed and eat their first meals. My teacher wants to make sure no kids take home problem feeders or anything.
My classmates and 2 teachers are taking the rest. :D
