Hi!!!

Hi there..... Im kind of new to the snake thing and just needed some assurance about some questions.

Im getting a corn snake soon and Im feeling kind of queesy about it.....
Im only 14 but i have thouroughly researched everything on corn snakes.

There is one thing i am concerned about though....

Is a zilla critter keeper 20 gallon long too big for a 10-12 inch baby corn snake....

I will have at least 4 hides but im just worried about stressing out the little guy.

I plan to get her from Kathy Love whom i have heard is a great breeder.

One more quick question.

How long after the little guy has been in the enclosure should I feed her....
Most people say about 3 days but I want an expert opinion

Any input about anything is appreciated

Welcome! I just joined this forum and asked the exact same question pretty much lol. Basically, a 20L cage would be a great size for a young snake. It might need a little more than 4 hides though.

A 20 long will last the snake its whole life. Approximatley how big are the hides? If they are pretty big, then its fine. But if they are pretty small, then you might need to get more.
I'm no expert, but I do have experience: You should wait about a week for your snake to settle in before feeding it.
Its great that you did your research!
Also, Welcome to the forum!

Smile hides

I am ong to get some small clay pots turned upside down because i heard that they like to jam hemselves in tight places. i will then upgrade the pots as the snake gets older and larger. I will also have water bowls big enough for the snake to soak in its entire lfe too.

I think you have a problem. As far as I know, it's not legal to own cornsnakes in Georgia.

Okay, I checked.

It may be tempting to want to keep that cute little Box Turtle or Corn Snake you found in your yard.? But you have to ask, is it legal?? In a word, NO.

The Short Answer

EVERY wild species of nonvenomous Snake, Lizard, and Land Turtle/Tortoise are protected in Georgia and illegal to keep without proper permits.? Basically, if you can catch it in Georgia, you generally can't keep it in Georgia.

The LONG Answer
Below is a list of reptile and amphibian species native to Georgia that are ILLEGAL to keep as pets in Georgia.

Snakes:
Black Racer
Brown Snake
Coachwhip
Corn Snake
Glossy Crayfish Snake
Striped Crayfish Snake
Southeastern Crowned Snake
Central Florida Crowned Snake
Rough Earth Snake
Smooth Earth Snake
Florida Worm Lizard
Eastern Hognose Snake
Southern Hognose Snake
Eastern Indigo Snake
Eastern Kingsnake
Black Kingsnake
Mole Kingsnake
Scarlet Kingsnake
Milksnake
Mud Snake
Northern Pine Snake
Florida Pine Snake
Garter Snake
Pine Woods Snake
Queen Snake
Rainbow Snake
Black Ratsnake
Gray Ratsnake
Yellow Ratsnake
Redbellied Snake
Ribbon Snake
Ringneck Snake
Rough Green Snake
Scarlet Snake
Banded Water Snake
Brown Water Snake
Florida Water Snake
Green Water Snake
Northern Water Snake
Redbelly Water Snake
Worm Snake

**************

A California kingsnake would be okay. I don't see Florida Kingsnake on the list- that is a very nice pet snake. Very easy to care for. There are many, many nice pet snakes that aren't native to Georgia.

A perfect example of Politicians with no lives who have decided to make our lives harder. Get a florida king. Amazing snake, easy to care for, and very inquisitive. just don't smell like food! ( I warned ya...)
