Unhappy Female Cornsnake not eating

Hi everyone,

My corn snake is about 13 years old, and until now she's always been very active and healthy. But recently, just after she finished shedding, she's been very anxious and restless all the time, all night all day. She moves around the tank, rubbing her nose against the glass, refuses to eat, and now she's starting to lay eggs! Which she's never done before...

If anyone knows what this behaviour might mean or has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. My main concern is that she's not eating (it's been almost 3 weeks now ...).

Thanks guys

You need to put a lay box in with her ASAP!!!! Basically, get moist moss and put it in a dark box for her. She won't eat until she is done laying, she is restless like that because she is laying and has no place to do it!

Oh okay I will do it today! Thanks very much for the advice! Any idea why she hasn't started laying eggs until now? (13 years later??)

This seems to be a crazy year for snakes, both my girls laid slugs too, one was 13 and I didn't get her a lay box in time, she went in it, laid 12 slugs, crawled out and died. I had no idea she was even gravid, she is fully grown but the eggs were the size of marbles so I couldn't feel them and didn't give it a second thought that she could be gravid.

I don't know why she just started, my guess is that (for me, anyway) I had 6 corns, two of them female, and the hormones just started raging. Last year when I only had one corn (female) nothing unusual happened.

Do you also have a male corn?

She doesn't Want me to touch her and keeps her mouth open a lot of the time. . Should I add the moss in her box and move her and her eggs there or just add the moss and let her go there herself?

If you never bred her then the eggs are slugs, and not worth keeping. Put the lay box in anyway until you are sure she is done laying.
