Hello,
I have a 15 year old cornsnake who I would like to move to a new, larger Terrarium. However, I plan on getting a young, female ball python and I was wondering if it is okay to place a different snake permanently, or temporary in a habitat where another one once lived? If it is okay, what are some tips on cleaning the cage (if there are precautions)? If it is not okay, what are some of the downsides?

Unless you current snake has had any illness it's OK to do so after thoroughly cleaning the viv.
First use very hot water and dish soap and scrub all organic matter out. Then you can use the bleach solution of 1/10 parts dillution (or a bit stronger) or the clorhexidine method and then rinse and air very very well. You can also use steam, as done with babies. Even clean the cage with 2 different methods. All husbandry must be cleaned this way, as well (all caves, water bowls, etc. if you're not moving them to the new viv as well).
I in the USA you have something called F10 to disinfect? You can also use that.
You can also buy a specialised product at a pet shop, but it'll be more expensive.

Since you should be using a stronger than usual difinfection, clean the cage with time so it can ventilate correctly.
