Milksnake Phase

Have you ever wondered why they call it "milksnake phase?" It looks nothing like any milksnake I've ever seen. Until I was reading my new Applegate book and came across the Pale Milksnake!

Pale Milksnake, Ric Blair Reptiles:

Milksnake Phase Miami Cornsnake Cherry:

Isn't that cool?

I nearly ran over an Eastern Milkesnake with my lawnmower a couple summers ago. shoulda just grabbed it, but I ran to get my garden gloves and it was looong gone. It had much brighter red saddles than most pictures of EMSs that I've seen since, almost as bright as the one above.

You can bet any king or milk I find is coming home for at least a short visit! No time to waste getting gloves, either!!

Thanks for posting, Nanci! I never even really thought about it, just kept in my mind what "milk snake phase" corns looked like.

hahaha, It didn't even occur to me that I'd never really seen a milk snake that looked like the morph..

Awesome post!
