Miscellaneous Corn Snake Discussions This is a "none of the above" forum. All posts should still be related to cornsnakes in one form or another, but some slight off topic posting is fine. |
My own little controversial topic... Just how "weird" are we?!

A friend of mine got me into snakes, so she and our mutual friends don't think us as any weirder than we were before.
The people I work with don't seem to mind much either. I've had a few pair of snakes delivered to me at work (since I wouldn't be home to sign for them). Both times turned into a lesson on snakes and why they are so darned cute. Even the few girls that were afraid asked questions and didn't mind them, so long as I didn't bring the snakes their way, of course.
The person I though I would have to convert was my mom. She surprised me when my 12 year old brother asked for one and she said yes. So long as he learned as mush as possible from me about their care. Her only thing was feeding it and felt much better when I explained why we don't feed live to snakes. Then all was ok.

Luckily I don't get a lot of hassle about my snakes. I've had plenty of strange looks and the old "you keep SNAKES?" but never anyone telling me I'm outright weird or disgusting. Good thing too - I'm not sure why the pets I keep reverse the lack of right they have to insult me
The one that makes me laugh is when people back away from you, like you might have one in your pocket or something. Someone at work did that - he actually backed away from me when he learned of my snakes. Dunno if he thought I'd brought them all to the office with me.

I get called "Snake" at work. Course I'm already "The Odd One" simply because of the whole "Mother to Quadruplets" thing
Speaking of Tattoo's, ya I have a few, BUT in 17 days i'm traveling out of state to get one added to, that will involve a Corn Snake in it, stay tuned for that

Here's a question for everyone.
How many of you keep snakes but can't stand spiders?
I personally hate spiders (scorps are OK though ).
I have noticed over the years that a good number of the people who snakes do not like spiders.

Don't know about you guys but I never claimed to be "normal".
I love telling people that I have a snake, most of the reactions are priceless. Then I get to say "well I also had rats before, and a squirrel, and a ...". Jaws drop even farther. I to am deathly afraid of spiders, especially the ones I find in the shower with me on beautiful spring mornings. It's a good thing we have one of those detachable showerhead sprayer thingys. I have piercings and I have tattoos. My snake is a watcher. I have a dog with epilepsy and another that has the exact personality I do. Am I normal, far from it, and my animals are crazy to. But the question is, how much fun would live be if you were normal? I personally love peoples reactions.

I am not a big fan of spiders. I don't really fear them, per se, because they die easily. But since I can't identify them, and we have some dangerous ones around, I try to avoid them if at all possible.
I AM, however, afraid of flying insects. I don't like bugs that fly unless I can positively identify it mid-air...which is only with the ones important to fish. It's really quite funny...I admittedly run away screaming like a girl. Bats, too...
