We went to Manasota beach last Saturday to see if crabs were washing up with the dead fish. We didn't see any, and all of the larger fish had been removed, also no crabs were found dead. What surprised me was that no seagulls were scavenging the dead small fish and eels on the beach. I got to wondering how, or why, they discerned that they shouldn't eat the fish? From all I've read the red tide will kill the fish, but the fish aren't poisonous. Our friends went fishing in Boca Grande and said they coughed for 5 miles
of red tide before getting out to cleaner water. Yikes.

Yeah, I have heard that the red tide is pretty bad down there.

As for eating the fish, I always heard that it is not a good idea to eat anything coming out of the waters where red tide persists. Matter of fact, we just stocked up on some shrimp thinking that it might affect the waters up in this area too. We won't be buying local seafood if that happens.

Heck, I haven't purchased Alaskan king crab since the Fukushima nuclear reactor disaster. Doesn't look very likely that I will again in my lifetime, neither.

My son works in Venice, close to the water, and he coughs all day until he comes home. The poor businesses are on the verge of bankruptcy this year. I went past some restaurants that closed, and the ones that were open had few customers. Cottage rentals are vacant, and a few lie about the conditions just to get people down here.

That would mean a pretty big dragonfly, too!

Not to mention I would have to be in my private flying saucer to take that photo.
