• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

Avatar Question?

Snakes are the new sexy
My avatar seems blurry and smaller compared to other members. I'm using Photoshop to resize to JPEG, so shouldn't be that bad. Does being a paid member increase your avatar allotment size?

Hmmm...considering that the exact same avatar looks much better at Fauna Classifieds...I'm thinking this forum does some kind of annoying automatic compression. I still don't understand why others have such nice-looking avatars though.

Actually the avatar dimension size and file size is exactly the same here as it is for registered members on FaunaClassifieds. However, Contributor members here get a bump from 100x100 pixels for registered members up to 160x160 pixels.

I suspect that the system does not scale the avatars back when the paid membership level expires, so many that you see might have set up their avatars when they were paying contributors.

And the same applies for members over on FaunaClassifieds as well.

Anyway, seemed like a reasonable idea to have some perks for those people willing and able to help out financially with the sites. Many people will just contribute because they want sites to keep on chugging along. Others seem to need to feel that they are actually getting something extra for their money. After running sites for so long, and knowing what goes on behind the scenes, any site I spend any substantial time on I will always contribute financially to them. Even if it is for nothing more than letting the owner(s) know that I appreciate what they are doing.

Just my two cents. I became a contributor about a month after I started here. The extra perks are a nice recognition of that support, but are not the reason I support.

I certainly wish that people who sign up, ask a question or two, get "greetings and answers" and leave, would stick around a bit. Someday their Google's for info are going to lead to nowhere.

It almost feels like we are rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic around here lately, but until it goes under I'll do what I can.

I've noticed this forum has a few active people, but not many. It's too bad because I enjoy being part of the Facebook group (Corn Snakes Worldwide) because it has more people, but for the more in-depth discussions -- like, can snakes hear us -- I feel like this forum is more conducive. Have longtime members here noticed a downward trend in participation?

Two years isn't long term, but even in two years activity here has dropped off a lot.

Corn Snake Owners Worldwide is just one of many Corn Snake groups on Facebook. It's so fragmented over there. I guess its convenient for folks who are on there anyway. I don't even go on Facebook everyday.
