Mine have been named after books, tv shows, etc. I named an entire clutch (the Tessera X Tessera clutch) after gemstones.

Mandy is a rescue and named from the name Amanda meaning worthy of love. Cleo is yellow and reminded me of Liz Taylor's golden dress in the movie Cleopatra. Clyde is named for my late father. Daddy has been gone for 15 years but I think he would have liked his little namesake.

My albino corn is named Arancione it means the color orange in Italian. We call him Arrie for short (mostly because my husband can't pronounce Arancione lol) my other corn is named Morgan just because she looks like a Morgan, the more I handle her the more I see the name suits her. Our ball python is named Consuela Happy Pants, she came with that name we call her either Connie or Baby Girl

Hoo boy, I love this question. I started out by continuing the NATO phonetic alphabet naming convention started by my bf who works for the Air Force (civilian). He found some kittens and named them Oscar, Echo, and Victor. So now we have:

Alpha - Palmetto
Charlie - Strawberry Plasma
Delta - Buf Tessera
Foxtrot - Peach Hypo Lavender
India - RC Anery
Juliett - Diffused Topaz
November - Orchid
Sierra - Classic
Tango - Cayenne Fire
Zulu - Hypo(berry?) mystery thing

Then there was the freebie female I got and named after a softcore porn I found in my grandpa's sock drawer while searching for Christmas presents at age 12.

Felicity - Magma (Lava Blood)

From there I started running out of phonetic names I liked, so I turned to Magic: the Gathering for inspiration.

Elspeth - Hypo Lavender
Avacyn - Amethyst (Lava Lavender)
Mikaeus - Tessera
Akiri - Sunkissed
Tibalt - Cherry Amel
Kenji - Ball Python (named after a popular player rather than a card)

Two clutches of possible het Goldens all got dessert-ish names in honor of their Caramel dams: Amandine, Baklava, Cannoli, Doughnut, Empanada, Fritter, Gelato, Ambrosia, Biscotti, Churro, Divinity, and Eclair.

I'm going to try and keep naming clutches for as long as I can come up with names.

Clutch #1 - Spicy Chili Cultivars: Pequin, Cascabel, Pasilla, Rocoto, Mirasol, Malagueta, Aji, Puya, Espanola, Morita, Chimayo, Moruga, and Guajillo.

Clutch #2 - Solar Divinities: Surya, Belenos, Atarapa, Marici, Arinniti, Utu, Inti, Ekhi, and Zhuyin.

Clutch #3 only had one surviving hatchling, a keeper I've named Ember.

Clutch #4 - Magic: the Gathering Abilities: Affinity, Flip, Vigilance, Flash, Dash, Storm, Frenzy, Ripple, Grandeur, Cipher, Radiance, Cascade, Chroma, Prowess, and Scry.

Haven't decided on a name theme for Clutch #5, which should hatch within the week.

Rufus (pronounced Roo fis) is actually a Man's name taken from the Bible (I think), but it's also a "Country Boy Red Neck Southerner" sort of name. And since it rhymes with Doofus it just sort of stuck. Because he is a Doofus.
Rufus is a Roman cognomen (like a nickname passed from father to son) meaning "red" referring to hair color.

Her original name was Majestic, which I named her when I was young. But eventually Majestic turned into Maggie and Maggie just stuck.

That's top secret information. I'm not at liberty to say.

That's why my newest is going to be named! I guess we're likely to have name crossovers on this forum eventually.

I did not know that. But for the hell of it I just googled Rufus, and this is what Google told me:

Rufus is a rumpled, redheaded (it was the nickname for red-haired King William) ancient Roman name popular with saints and singers (e.g. Rufus Wainwright); now, Rufus is on the cutting edge of cool.

Fellow singer James Taylor named one of his twins Rufus, and Rufus Humphrey is a Gossip Girl character. Rufus Sewell is a commanding, intense English actor.

Rufus is mentioned in the New Testament as the name of a son of Simon the Cytherian, and there are several St. Rufuses. He's also a major figure in the George Eliot novel Felix Holt: The Radical, an honest and passionate preacher and politician.

Hmmmm...... it's still a southern redneck thing if you ask me.
