Can one tell what kind of wood is this?

Found in Northern Florida by cold creek around a lot of cedar and pine. Am concerned that it's not safe for snakes, should I be?

Whatever it is it looks like it's been in the water a long time. Does it have a smell? Any way to bake it at 200 for half an hour or to boil it for a few mins? That will disinfect it and kill any bugs that might be lurking inside.
