Skinny snake/feeding troubles

Hi all,

So I’ve had my corn snake since February of this year and I have been feeding her pinkies every Thursday but she looks
thin. I fed her two pinkies two days ago and she ate them fairly fast. Besides that I don’t know how often I should feed her what size to feed her and how to help her gain weight and what weight she needs to be. Please help. I only want the best for her and so far I think I’m being a bad owner. And before you ask she has been doing extremely well besides this little feeding predicament. She’s had 4 perfect sheds with me and passes her food perfectly fine. Please help ASAP

You need to buy one of the inexpensive gram scales so that you can track her weight gains. I assume she was a hatchling or young corn when you purchased her. If so you could feed her a pinky every 4 days, but I sprinkle reptile vitamins on the pinkies so I can move the snake up to fuzzy size mice. They really start gaining weight when eating fuzzies.

Okay so right now I should feed her a pinkie every four days until she looks ready to eat fuzzies? Or should I just jump to fuzzies and have her gain weight off of that? Also what weight do you think I should be working towards for her?

Hi there and welcome to the forum!! I always struggle with trying to figure out appropriate weight versus feeding, so I use the munson guideline, and have found that it's simple. Do a search on this forum and you'll find it. You will need a scale, but they're fairly inexpensive online.

Good luck!

Like twolunger and snakecreations have mentioned, you really should get a scale to weigh your snake to determine what size mouse to feed. We can't make an accurate recommendation on what to feed without knowing the weight of the snake.

How quickly did she digest the two pinkies?

Typically corns in the 16 gram weight can easily handle two pinkies. When she gets up to 24 grams it's time to think about moving her to fuzzies. But if you have several pinkies left you may as well use them up if she is your only snake. I've even fed three pinkies at a time just to use up my old supply.
