It's hard to give a straight answer here because like most pets, corns' temperaments vary and some will behave completely differently to others.

By "normal behaviour" do you just mean temperament or do you have some specific questions?

In general corns are the perfect 'beginner' snake. They are usually docile and don't mind being handled after they get used to it, with few health worries so they're easy to look after, and they tend to be good feeders. They are primarily nocturnal so some you will rarely see during they day, although many will show themselves no matter what the time of day.

If you are really serious about buying a corn and you want to know everything, the Corn Snake Manual (now 'Comprehensive Owners Guide') which you can buy at www.cornutopia.com is a good place to start. Otherwise, ask some more specific questions and we'll do our best to answer them.

Candy canes are not a common morph.

Yes, for the most part. They usually will come out in the evening and be hiding again by the time you get up in the morning(or in my case come home from work in the morning). I just disturb them to handle them when I want. Doesn't seem to bother them too much at all..

Some will, some won't. Some will only hide when they are due to shed. Mine (when he isn't burrowing through colder months) will not hide at all. It just depends on the snake.

My corn (an adult) is out all the time when she can tell people are around. If she's in her hide, and I get home, or get up in the morning, she comes out right away. She drapes herself over her branch and just gazes out of her viv, or a lot of the time stretches up toward the screen. I always say hi to her and talk to her when I go past her viv, which is in the kitchen. I'd say she'd out 75% of the time during the day/evening. She is very gentle and has never coiled at me or seemed like she was going to bite. When I take her out, she clings to me. If I set her on the ground, she crawls about leisurely and doesn't attempt to run away. (Not that she couldn't get lost if I didn't pay attention to her.)
