Common garter snake (and I am in the bite club! PICS!)

That's a great story, but this was my favorite part. I'm sorry, it took me quite a while to even read on because first I had to read this a few times. I love it!
Having grown up on a farm, I also know what you guys are saying about smells being nostaligic. But for me it's horse/cow (all their smells, but yup, poop too.) , not so much snake.
My first pet snake was an old adult garter snake named Iggy, given to my mom by her biology professor. Maybe I'm being nostalgic but he was the sweetest snake I've ever met. He died when I was in 2nd grade and my mom preserved him in a jar, which somehow made me feel a little better (she regretted this when my hamster died). That has been over 20 years ago and she still has him, and he's still looking good!
I love the smell of Gartersnake musk. Such happy childhood memories!

I have had many childhood encounters with Garters. Indeed, more musk than bite !
I adore the pictures you posted Spyderk !! I really like the young woman in blue, with the blue tongue ;-) You've got a beautiful family, that's for sure.
Thanks, guys! The stories I could tell from last year ... I might just have to since all we are doing is waiting for spring and all the garters, hognose, foxies, and red-bellies!
