Smile First Rack System :) inc Pics

Hey all,

So I'm pretty new to this snake business, but I have completely fallen into the addiction side of things! (Silly me getting started on something else!)

Already a list of potential snakes to find this year to start the collection.

They are just fascinating creatures!

Anyway, had looked at rack systems online but found them rather out of my budget, so decided to make my own.

It's a 4 rack system with a small storage gap at the top to keep thermostat, kitchen roll, tongs etc.

I have only started constructing it today, but will post photographs of stages and progress

PHOTOGRAPHS IN NEXT POST DOWN

Materials used (inc cost £GBP):

x1 large sheet of 16mm MDF = £20
x4 clear 32litre plastic storage boxes = £16 (£4 each)
x3 Habistat heat mats = £27 (£7.50 each + delivery)
x1 Thermostat = £20
x1 4 gang extension cord = £1
x12 Shelf Supports = £2.70
x25 screws = £2.50
x2 Butt hinges (lol) = £2.90

TOTAL COST = £92.10 GBP / $150.00 USD (roughly)

Hope this is of some help to those looking to build or design the same type of system.

MDF for shelving / dividers

Rest of shelves + larger black side panel (painted with floorboard paint)

Some of the shelves half painted.

Im only painting half as the heat mat will sit on the unpainted section of the panel at the rear or the unit once assembled

Last but not least for the meantime:

The 32litre clear storage boxes.

I have quite a lot of 6mm holes drilled in each side of these

AND
The last few bits and pieces as far as construction goes

More to follow, will be putting this thing together tomorrow. Will keep post up to date + eventually some pics of it's contents

Getting the thing screwed together and sized properly to prevent any escapee snakes

Pretty much the finished rack.
Heat mats etc to be added still.

There is a gap at the top for extension cords, feeding tongs, thermostat etc

Nice !!!!

That was good thinking, using the gap at the top as a shelf.

I love seeing successful DIY racks. Much cheaper usually than commercial ones, and more racks means more snakes! Great job, looks good.
