A once in a lifetime find?

I've been very fortunate to photograph so many beautiful animals this year. Last Saturday I witnessed something very special. One of the guys I was herping with turned over a rotting log and there were seven smooth green snakes underneath. If that wasn't cool enough, one was in the process of hatching. Perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity seeing that happen in the wild.

We also found some very colorful young 5-lined skinks. What a great day!

Now that is an amazing find! You won the herping lottery right there! Congrats on such an awesome discovery

That is awesome!!! In thousands of hours of field research I've never come across that! I've seen mating snakes several times and found hatching lizards (skinks) once....but not hatching snakes! Post birth rattlesnakes quite a few times but not "in the act" like your pics. Definitely a lifetime experience! Congrats!

Oh, I would have parked my butt right then and there and they would have had to drag me away from watching! What a cool thing to come across and witness.

I like the adult skink too, his eyes look so wizened.
