It used to drive me bonkers when my hognose went off feed. It didn't have to be breeding season, or only males, they just quit eating. I found that they couldn't resist toad scent, so had one frozen for such occasions. Just rubbing the prey item on the frozen toad was enough to get a feeding response. I even sent toads to others who had hognose that went off feed. I had a huge farm pond and thousands of toads hatched every year. I sold all my hognose when I moved to Florida.
