First Corn snake

Hi there ! I am looking at bringing home a corn snake. I already have a tank with sliding lock top with dimensions 30in x 12in x 12in. Can I use this enclosure for the lifetime of a corn snake ? I am unsure of what age I’ll be getting but preferably a juvenile. Would I have to divide the tank into a smaller section until it grows ? Thanks for any info & newbie tips !!

Also open to suggestions of what age is best to purchase

That tank will not be big enough for an adult corn that can easily reach 48 to 60 inches in length. These are an active species. They need room to move and climb. All my corns are in a minimum of 36x18 inch cages, but most of my adults are on the smaller end. My largest boy is in a 4ftx2ft and I would very much like to move him into something even bigger someday when I can afford it.
If you are getting a juvenile, you will not need to divide the tank at all.

Thanks ! I’ve gotten mixed answers about max size but planned to get a 38x18 eventually anyway .. just trying to make use of my old 30x12 tank. How long would a juvenile last in this tank before needing to be moved ? After 1 year or closer to 2 when it hits adulthood

It's going to depend on the length. Once it's longer than 30 inches, you should probably move it up.

Good info. Both of my corns are in 40-gallon tanks and they love to climb and move about. They are probably trying to find a way out! Make sure that you give him/her plenty of things to climb on. They will thank you for it!
