Herping Northeastern IL

Today I went herping for my first time with Bushsnake, another member of this forum. We were out in the northeastern part of IL, along the Mississippi river. While the only snake we found was a DOR foxsnake, we did find some turtles. Here's a few pics from today:

Besides the duckweed and algae on the turtle's shell, is that a leech? Love the turtle pics and the cactus is very pretty. Is that a painted turtle?

Bushsnake, it was very fun and a new adventure.

Dollysmom, yes that was a leech on the painted turtle! We took it off. I wasn't even aware that IL had cactus! I was like whaaaaaaat!! Lol

Very cool stuff. Yeah that cactus is a native plant. The flower is so pretty. Thanks again.

I've lived in IL my whole life and never seen cactus.. lol! They were everywhere. It was strange. Thanks for taking a look!!
