Thanks! For some reason, I had in my head that cube was a Motley thing. Not sure why.

Yep. Stripes have a wide central 'stripe' and narrower lateral stripes, whereas a pinstripe motley has a narrow central stripe with wide lateral stripes.

What mostly confuses me is that people call the background color the "stripe". I always call the saddle colored stripes the stripes, if you know what i mean :P

the saddle borders are what determine the stripe thickness, or lack of thickness.
thin saddle borders will result in thin stripes.
absent saddle borders will determine disappearing or vanishing pattern, depending on the lineage.
broad banded makes for some appreciative wide striping morphs.
