Arrow Remove Large Water Bowls For Gravid Females!!

Just getting the word out there for new breeders. Momma snakes will not always lay their eggs in the nice nest box you provide. Some will choose the water bowl. The eggs then drown fairly rapidly. So the safest way to avoid this problem is to remove the female's large water bowl when you are done pairing the snakes and replace it with a bowl so small that she cannot get into it.

Great tip. I actually just did this since we have one we are having a hard time telling if she is gravid. (She always has that gravid attitude year round).

That's a lesson I learned the hard way with my very first clutch of eggs. Fortunately she had only laid one before I noticed where she had laid it....and that one definitely went bad right away.

Wow, I'm about a week away from my first clutch and I didn't know that. You probably saved a whole little family of snakes with that post! Thanks!

this is not uncommon for us! mostly with the ball pythons, though.

Yep, I found this out the hard way with a pair of Kisatchies. Came home and found all 15 of her eggs drowned. I had only done ball pythons in the past, and did not know this about colubrids. :/

But now I know and the same mistake will not happen again!!!
