Hypomelanistic Blood Red Corn Snake

From my retired SerpenCo.com website.

This is another interesting blending of the Hypomelanistic gene with an already popular and well-known cultivar. Some of the Blood Reds can have a bit more black markings than some people like, so it was a natural thing to do to try to remove this with Hypomelanism. Results have been pretty successful and the resulting animals at the very least will look like some of the best of the best of regular Blood Reds. Since this project is still fairly new, I don't have any old specimens to observe to see what changes may take place on a very mature animal. All in all, you can expect to get pretty much a patternless orange-red to red corn snake, with the typical white abdomen with some blotching of orange-red.

Babies are REALLY strange looking with almost white heads. This is the odd pattern that you will see in normal Blood Reds, but the Hypomelanism bleaches out the color and produces a rather unusual effect. This soon fades, as do the typical markings of the youngsters to a rich uniform red to red-orange.

Unfortunately, numbers will again be very limited for this season.
