I could imagine it being possibly tied to the gene. It would be interesting to see if there was a pattern to the presence of the bug-eye. Is it seen more often in individuals that lack or have smaller melanin deposits on the face? Melanin is not just used in pigment, it plays vital roles in development in many different area.

I purchased an ultramel stripe het lavender cornsnake from VMS about 3 years ago and it was slightly bug-eyed though not as severely as the one you posted Rich. As a matter of fact I contacted VMS about it and they refunded my money for that particular one as I had purchased it as a mate for my Ultramel Stripe het Lavender male I had purchased from them a year prior. I did wind up selling it as a pet though. I didn't think it should be bred considering it could be a genetic issue.
