Question Wrinkles?

My corn is about 2 years old. He had a bad shed back on 4/23. He shed the first half of his body but then I had to soak him and rub the rest of him off. He has been fine but I notice when he curves his body his scales look wrinkled on the curve in side then when he straightens out his is all smooth again. Is this just due to him getting more girth and so his scales are bigger? Also I just changed his substrate to aspen from just cage carpet. He was too excited to say the least. How long does it take for a corn to get used to his new substrate and how will I know if he doesn't like it and I should switch back? Thanks for all the info.

The only time I've seen wrinkling like that is when it still has retained shed on it.

Is this the first shed he's had since you got him? If so, he might still have another layer beneath. (?)

Yes, Could be what Serpwidgets said, I have only seen mine wrinkly once and that was just before a shed.

He sheds every 8 weeks or so pretty consistantly. I have soaked him and looked to see if the scales are old but they look fine. It is only when he bends that the sides of him look like this.

dehydration????

he could be dehydrated... that would cause a poor shedding and also cause the skin to hang more and look wrinkled... good luck!!!! ---jim

too fat?

Would the snake just have become pudgy? In that case the little "spare tires" will show when it bends.

As far as getting used to the substrate, 3 to 4 days should tell you whether he can live with it or not.
