Strange Behavior

Hey guys, probably just being parinoid again but we fed our juvenile last tuesday, and usually he hides for 2 or 3 days while he digests but this time he's hidden all week. It's come Tuesday again and he's still hiding burrowed in the substrate. We held him Saturday hoping that would get him back into his normal routine, hiding during the day and coming out at night. His eyes aren't cloudy yet but he does look like he's getting close to a shed, his scales are getting a little "foggy" so to speak or dull. I'm just worried he's not drinking any water. If he's hiding all day, I don't want him getting dehydrated. Is this normal or should we be doing something? Thanks guys!

Mine will hide for about a week prior to ever looking blue. It's what I use as an indication that shedding is imminent, since some of my snakes are too light to tell if they're going blue at all, other than the eyes. When I haven't seen a snake out in the evening for 2 or 3 days, I know a shed is on the way!

Yeah that's what I was thinking but I just wanted to make sure, I'm very paranoid with my pets. It seems the right time for a shed, we got him a month ago and a day or two before we got him he had shed so hopefully he'll be back to his normal self soon.

What's the rule about holding and shedding?

I don't generally hold or feed until they're done shedding. While they're blue they can be a little grumpy, and even if they're not hissy I'm sure they're uncomfortable. Also, if they can't see, they probably don't feel too safe. I just wait it out, and miss them terribly. Once they're done, I usually take them and the shed skin out for inspection to make sure they got their eye caps and tail tip off, and then feed them the same day.

He's due for a feeding today, should we try and feed him or just leave him be till he's done?

I wait until they shed before feeding. Some snakes will refuse food while blue, others will eat, but I've read that there is a risk of regurgitation if they eat while blue. I feel that missing a feed, which doesn't hurt them at all, is better than any risk of a regurgitation, which can be a serious problem.
If they needed to eat while shedding they'd be out hunting, instead of hiding away relaxing.
