Striped Keelback Advice

Hello all,

I haven't posted in a while, but I recently adopted a new snake from Craigslist from a woman who really didn't seem to know what she was talking about. I have only ever owned one snake, a corn, and I've had him for about 6 months so I know I'm no expert, but I do a good amount a research, and I feel confident in my abilities as a snake owner.

That being said, I've been wanting another snake, different from a corn for a different experience, and a woman on craigslist was getting rid of a female "Indonesian Garter Snake" for 25$, so I got it and the tank from her for 40. Not a bad deal I thought, the snake looks really cool and I haven't seen any like her before. I would estimate her at about... 4-7 months old? I'm no expert, she's a little smaller and skinnier than my 6 month old corn, but form what I've read, these snakes don't get huge.

It was a compulsive buy, and after I got her home and set up, I did a ton of research, only to find out the Indonesian Garter Snake is a misnomer, it's not a garter at all, but a Striped Keelback, venomous (though not dangerous, she's really tame) and with little to no literature about them anywhere on the web.

I found a care sheet that I have been following ish, and most people say to care for them the same as garters, so I did some research on them. Before she came to me, she only ate minnows, so starting a week after I got her I offered her a pinky and she took it, so I am going to move her completely over to mice.

She seems to be doing great so far, but very very different from Targaryan (my corn). She is out of her hide almost all of the time, either chilling in plain sight or sitting in her water bowl. She occasionally goes in the hide to sleep I assume, but is regularly out and crawling around, even after I've had her for 2 weeks.

I've held her twice, and she is pretty feisty and slithery, but she's never struck. When I had her out last night, she sneezed twice, but I haven't heard her do it since. Tar has never done that before, so I'm completely at a loss there.

I know this isn't the most appropriate forum to post to, but as a corn lover and owner, this was my first forum and you guys have been more than helpful so far, so I thought I would start here. If any of you know anything important about these snakes, or can lead me to a more helpful forum maybe, or can answer anything about the sneezing, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

You could try the kingsnake.com forums. they have an asian rat snake forum and a garter/ribbon snake forum. somebody there might know more about the species, or point you in the right direction.

Is it by any chance this? Wikipedia says they're non venomous.

But I also found this:

and

and

Maybe these will help.

Nice find! I know someone on the garter snake forum had some of those, I'm trying to remember their username. I believe that person is also on this forum,

I'd suggest this forum to you, the people are for the most part friendly, it's fairly active and so far, has been the best one for oddball species that I've found. But you have to share pictures of your new one here!
