How to tell if an amel is in shed

Well I have a candy cane which if I'am correct that is a selectively breed amel. Well to get to the point he refused a feed and I think he is going in shed but it is hard to tell visibly that he is shedding. You guys have any tips on how to tell?

For the first part of the shed phase they get a kind of pale greyish sheen over them, dulling the colours. However after that, they go back to their normal colours before they shed. It's possible that you might have missed the first phase. It's easily done if you have a Corn which is more inclined to hide away than be out and about.

If he's adult, then this is about the time of year that some males indulge in a breeding fast, where their instincts to mate over-ride their instincts to eat.
