Spring in Southeast Texas

Happy to see my first snake of the spring-a Diamond Backed water snake (Nerodia rhombifer) out basking--looks a little thin from brumation---I am one of the few people I know(besides my herp loving friends) that gets excited enough about seeing snakes to say "Oh Yeah!" out loud when I saw it LOL this means I should be seeing lots of snakes in my backyard pond in the coming weeks

Oh goodness they have silly eyes! Very pretty snake though, and I bet those eyes are perfect for its lifestyle.

That is so awesome. Diamondbacks are a snake I've always wanted to see in the wild. They do not live in my home state, but I was lucky enough to catch (and release) one in Southern Illinois a few years ago.

We got a call from someone who caught a coral snake to come pick it up,I actually thought it would be a Louisiana milk snake, but it really is a Texas coral snake,we know a guy who keeps them for educational displays that is excited to get it.

Right. I'm just glad the people who found it didn't kill it. Most people do without thinking about it.
