Zee's On The Munson Plan

Nanci

Alien Lover
I had Zee out last week, the 10th, to feed him. Then I took him out the 12th to weigh him (125 grams!! That would be >20 grams in two weeks) and he looked blue. "No," I thought "he just shed March 23rd. I must be mistaken!" Well here's what I found today when I pulled him out to feed:

Yup...looks blue to me!

Hey...where can I get a copy of this "Munson Plan"? Everyone following this plan seems to grow exceptionally large snakes in a VERY short period of time. Any suggestions on where I might obtain a copy of this elusive feeding guide??

The Munson plan got my Lavender 05 girl from 141 in December to over 300 grams in March!!! I LOVE it. You don't want to know what it's doing to my 06's LOL

Wow! I thought hoggies shed very infrequently, so that's pretty amazing. I love that ventral shot. :)

Right here, Chris (At some point I'm going to sticky it in the personal forum I share with Matt):

Munson Plan said:
-When they're on single pinks (2-3g), I feed every 4-5 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 4-5 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 5-6 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 5-6 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)
-Adult (24-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+)
-Jumbo Adults (40-50g) every 7-x days (Snake = 400g+)

Note: Adult females are fed more frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Females are fed every 6-8 days; males are fed every 7-14 days.

Dean, he's been going about once a month. (When I was having all the problems with feeding response biting I moved him from every seven days to every five- he'd been on a weekly schedule at the breeder's, and that's when his growth really took off, too, going by the total weight of prey suggested on the Munson Plan, but split between two or three prey animals, due to recommended caution with prey size for Tri-Colors) Addy, the Eastern, has shed twice since November. His ventrum is a beautiful robin's egg blue/silver- and he almost looks like he's about to burst open. On my monitor at work, he just looks dull gray.

When I had him out to weigh him last week, he started doing the convulsing hiccupping mating thing- Pineapple!!

If I was going to breed anything, I suspect Tri-Color Hoggies would be a cool thing to start with.

i don't have a scale so if i use the munson plan as a guideline how would i know the grams of my snake. Is there any other way just as length. I would guess my snake is 4-5g since it's only 13-15 inches tops. The pet store told me she's been eating one pinkie every 7 days so i'll start with that till i know she's over 5g. but like i said any tips to reference her in weight without a scale, if possible would be be great.

You can't use a weight-based feeding plan without a scale. Target has kitchen scales starting at $25.

Instead, you can use the rule of thumb: feed a prey item one to one and a half times the width of your snake at the widest part.

Nice! I'm in desperate need of a new scale. I picked my first one up from a smoke shop. I used to be able to place a small plastic Critter Keeper on top of it and zero that out, but it's been wayyyy too small for my needs for quite some time now. :rolleyes:
I haven't gotten a new scale yet just because I've been thinking it will be such a hassle to find a new good one. Figures that I'm freaked over nothing though. I've been dieing to weigh my snakes as they get larger and closer to breeding size. Time to take a trip to Target!

hey dean, can you make a munson plan for rats sometime? I would like to try it but I am very loyal to rats. They are supposed to be more nutritious. Any plans to do this?

Here are The Mouse Factory's rat weights:

Pink = 9g
Fuzzy = 19g
Pup = 27g
Weaned = 35g
Small = 55g
Med = 80g

So you could substitute a rat pink for a larger fuzzy, a rat fuzzy for a weaned mouse, a rat pup for an adult mouse, and a small rat for a jumbo mouse.

I just got a new scale from target, thanks. lol now i will be able to do the munson plan the way it was meant to be. I can't weight her yet because she just ate today and i didn't pick up the scale till after. I'll weight her tuesday, after giving her 5 days, and depending on her weight i will feed her accordingly. Thanks for all the help guys.
