I wasn't really that curious since they are a different species or subspecies (depending on source), but a lot of you guys seemed to be curious about it. Don Soderberg (South Mountain Reptiles) did test breed a male Dark-eyed Anerythristic Kisatchie Cornsnakes (which actually do seem to lack all yellow) to an Anerythristic Cornsnake. I didn't ask the clutch size (it doesn't matter since the parents were both homozygous individuals for the separate traits) or much else, but he did just send me this image. I'm posting in with permission.

In conclusion, the aner Kisatchie mutation is NOT allelic with Anerythrism in cornsnakes!

Another interesting update! I'm sure you share my concern about those getting into the wrong hands. I don't have your eye, KJ, so they sure look like normal non-hybrid corns to me. I guess that'll probably change as they mature. Hope so!

Cool. I think that's very interesting, so thanks for sharing.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing.....

Another good bit of info though. Thanks again KJ. I didn't know Don did that cross. He didn't mention anything to me when I told him about my Kisatchie X Coral Snow breeding.....

Walter,
BOUT' CORNS !!

KJ this is interesting indeed but i am curious why waste such great kisatchie genes with a corn?

I am very curious as they age on how they look. I hope they take more from the Kisatchie line.

Coral snakes have to eat too. (The aner kisatchie was the male, so no genes wasted as the female was only a aner corn.)

Yeah, these are pretty much no different from a rootbeer with 25% cornsnake in it, are they? That's why I never understood why a Kisatchie "creamsicle" is expected to look any different than other creams with extra cornsnake blood in them????? Not my thing, though.

Am I concerned about the risk these pose? I have more of a fear, but it is more of a "when" than an "if" with hybrids. They WILL eventually pollute the parent stock in captivity. The question is just how long. It was already started 5 years ago, I'm sad to say. However, I don't think it'll happen from these particular animals! I am very glad to be able to say that.

Don doesn't intend (his words) to sell any of these. I'm glad to say that he's been a big supporter of "keeping Kisatchie Cornsnakes pure" for the past 5 or 6 years. These are not a plan to develop a new morph - but just to test it for customers. I would have likely forgot he did it if he hadn't mentioned they were hatching. Don seems to be as worried about the negative effects of these double het aner crosses IF they ever get misrepresented (even if it takes 10 years to happen!) as I am.

He stated years ago (different forum) that he planned to only sale pure Kisatchie cornsnakes, so I don't think those that are concerned need to be worried about Don's actions. I'm not, and that should say a bunch.

KJ
