Poor Fat Snake

I was on Petfinder a few days ago because I'm in the process of trying to adopt a Leopard Gecko(if they ever get back to me) and I saw this poor corn snake for adoption. I forget where it was located and is gone now so I guess it was adopted but I was amazed at how obese this corn was.

i've seen some worse... but it just shows you that some snake keepers are stupid and only buy snakes as a "hey, watch my snake eat" kind of pet... just for laughs and stuff.... its sad.. i'm glad the snake was taken away by its original owner!!

I wanted to adopt the poor thing but it was out of state, but it seems like it found a new home which is good I hope they treat it better then it's past owners.

Wow, poor creature. Maybe the former owner thought they needed to be fed every day, or something equally lacking in species knowledge. I hope it gets a good home.

I actually swore out loud when I saw that. I hate people who do that to their animals, you know it's the owners fault for not knowing or caring at all about their animals health. How can people DO that?! How can they not know that isn't normal?

I've recieved a lot of reptiles that their owners claim are healthy and then when I get the animal I look at them a think how on earth can they look at these animals and think it's healthy. I hate owners who either have no common sense to tell an animal is suffering or just don't care. Atleast this one was turned over to a recued so it can get a new home.

This snake was back up for adoption at MARS Reptile Amphibian Rescue in Baltimore, MD, I feel bad for it and I like it's color so I decided to try and adopt it. I emailed them and now I'm waiting to see if it's still available.

That snake looks like it's egg bound! Hope they get back to you and let you adopt it. If so, get it to a vet ASAP. Good luck!

That snake looks almost like it's egg bound. Hope they get back to you and let you adopt it. Good luck!

I thought the same thing. Apparently this snake is 18 years old, I hope they let me adopt it I'd like to give it a good home for the remainder of it's life.

They didn't email me back but I'm assuming this poor fat snake must of been adopted because they deleted him from their list. I didn't get him but atleast it got a home.

That's great news. At least she will go to a good home. Be prepared though. I really do think that snake is very egg bound and in need of surgery. Let's hope I'm wrong and she's just really fat. :)

I hoping that isn't what it is. I'm trusting that the MARS rescue knows the difference and also had her checked out. If not my vet is 5 minutes away(lucky me she used to be 1 hour away).

I am dealing with an over weight snake at the moment. I feed her and adult mouse every 10-12 days and she swims 3 times a week to build her muscle tone.

Well, you have the answers I was going to give you. Every 2 weeks a small mouse.. As well as exercise exercise!

Wow, you are so great for taking this on, hopefully and god willing, you have just saved this poor snake's life. Let us know what the vet says. Best of luck.

I'm glad you rescued the snake... poor thing.

If you ever need help, or can't take care of him, I'm in NJ too and I'd be willing to take him...
