I found the squirrel launching video hysterical. Whether it was for entertainment or a means of getting rid of vermin, I don't particularly care. A few years ago my parents introduced me to an air powered BB rifle because birds kept getting into our garden. They tore up our tomato plants real bad pecking at bugs on them (which didn't do much harm by themselves), ate any young plants growing (flowers or a very tiny peach tree, didn't matter), and made a mess of our backyard.
Needless to say, every spring to fall, I'm sitting out in the backyard periodically waiting for any house sparrows or occasional dove or quail to come into the garden and look for a free meal. Whenever I get one in my sights, 90% of the time they're dead. (And rarely I'll hit them but not kill them, so the cat gets a flight-less bird treat.)
We even had problems with a squirrel once; I shot at it a number of times and either missed it or barely hit it. Our cat also killed two rabbits a few years back. I never saw any of those myself though.
The only birds I don't shoot at are the red robins and blue birds unless the same one keeps coming back again and again. The rare wood pecker birds that have peach colored breasts are never shot at though. Usually I go for the camera and hope for a good picture.
