This is a really interesting article. I have never really thought about it but from what this geologist is saying it sounds pretty serious.

"A rock can take millions of years to form, but it only takes a second for someone to skip a smooth pebble into a lake, and then it is gone." Dr. Kaiser said. "Perhaps these thoughtless rock-skippers don't care if they leave our planet completely devoid of rocks, but what about our children? Don't they deserve the chance to hold a rock and toss it up and down a few times?"

Who cares if future generations do not have rocks as long as I get to throw as many rocks as I want!
 
Do rocks dissolve in water? Wow. The rock still exists if you throw it into a lake. It's just in a different location. People like this scare me.
 
If you take the rock out of it's original habitat, it will change that habitat to be something it was never intended. That rock on the bottom of the lake is gone for all intents and purposes. The habitat is irreparably changed.
 
WOW...! I was just skipping rocks at the lake the other day.. Ooops!!! But I dont feel too bad.. It was at Lake Mead.. A lake that is not supposed to be there anyway.. And since its drying up, more rocks are uncovered every year anyway.. Eventually, all the ones we skip will be right there for us to play with again.. ;)
