Everglades Herping Trip: 06/11 - 06/14!!!!

RobbiesCornField

Bring it on.
That's it. I've HAD it. I've had it with all of the "scientists" claiming how many burms, retics, boas, and cobras are invading the beautiful 'Glades. So let's have a few members of the herping community disprove their sensationalistic claims!

I've decided that for my birthday this year, I want to take a herping trip into the heart of this majestic wetland. This trip will be from June 11th to 14th, pending a few details and reservations at the Flamingo campground in Everglades National Park!

I'm looking for some fun people to accompany me on this venture. I, personally, will be attempting to requisition a nice big tent, but I won't turn down a camper or RV if someone would like to bring one! The fees for each night will be $14 total split between however many people we have. If there are between 9 and 15 people, however, that jumps up to $28 per night, again, split between however many people we have. (Whoever brings the camper stays for free. :p ) IF there are going to be more than 8 people, I will need to know ASAP to make sure one of the 4 group sites can be reserved for us!

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, and something you'd feasibly be able to do, respond in this thread and send me a PM as well! Please note that there will be sharing of the camper and tents, so if you're not comfortable with that, you might want to get your own camp site.

Side note: whiners and downers will NOT be permitted on this trip. If you think Florida is too hot/humid/buggy already, and you still want to come, I don't want to hear a single complaint out of you!

I think that about covers it!

OMG, I have to move to the east coast if you guys keep on doing all this fun stuff without me.... I think I will have to drag my fiance kicking and screaming, but Darnit, I want to have fun too.... LOL

Haha! Come on down!!! :) Florida has PLENTY of room for more herpers!

I would like to go - but could probably only do one or two nights....maybe. I leave for Cleveland not long after that so really have to watch my spending.... I understand camping is cheap enough - but I have to account for gas and such as well. I will keep it in mind and try to let you know as soon as I have it figured out.

Aw, my vacation is from the 22nd to the 31st of May...(Can't change, has to be reserved in December...) Have fun!!

One or two nights is fine! :) Checkouts and re-checkins are at 11am each day, so even if you only wanted to come for one night, that'd be fine! :)

Aww... but who else is going to be crazy enough to pet wild gators with me?!

Too soon, for me, bro. I might have been able to swing a fall trip to find those baby rattlers y'all got out there, but I am moving in 2 weeks and early June is definitely out of the question...

Make sure you post a TON of photos!!

There's a good chance I'll be making another trip in the fall. ;) I'll try and give a little more advanced notice for that one, though. This one is rather spur of the moment, and was decided on... today. :p I'll definitely look forward to having you join me one of these days! And maybe I'll be able to make my way out to CA before too much longer and say hi!

I'll be sure to post TONS of pics, just for you!

Looks like if you stay at a regular site at Flamingo, it's free.

All campgrounds are open year round. Reservations can be made for campsites at Flamingo and Long Pine Key Campgrounds at 1-800-365-2267. Camping from May through October will be by self-registration at all campgrounds. Fees are not charged from June to August.

Hey - if you can swing a fall trip out this way - why not plan it for around Daytona weekend??

Ugh, I wish man. I used to swim with wild gators in the Amite River, back home... Mostly on accident though. Someone dumped the canoe over when she saw a snake...lol. I jumped in to help flip it back over and that is when the Marine Biologist with us told me he saw a 6 footer go into the water a couple minutes before they tipped over...lol

You guys going to any areas that have North American Croc's?

I would die to see one of those guys in person... LOL

They'll have to go another 100 miles south to find them.

Robbie y'all might be disappointed, no one I know of down that way that runs the glades has seen any since the big freeze.

I'll let y'all know if I can go when it gets closer, might have to herp one day with y'all and take the boat on over to area 3 the next. That'd be one heck of a weekend :dancer:

We're gonna be in the Everglades. I'm sure there'll be one or two floating around! Whether or not we see 'em is another story. LOL

Maybe one day after I become a teacher and have summers off to do some things I enjoy. And a steady paycheck...lol, Until then it is school full time, including summers. At least for the next year and a half so I can keep my GI bill rolling in and helping with the bills and paying my tuition...

Extra person #1 is in! :) We're gonna have to show my li'l sister how crazy us reptile people REALLY are!

Bah. I don't care. Good friends and a beautiful area? What more could a guy ask for? I mean, yeah, it'd be nice to see a few giants (or at least some small representatives that we could capture and remove), but I'll just be happy hanging out with friends in the great outdoors. :)

You know I'd be there if I had the funds to fly down! We'll see though, I'm going to be starting a job next week, we'll see what Jeff (one of my mom's constables) decides to pay me.

I've never had a bad day in the woods that I can recall, good times for sure. I'd love to run across one of those big boys just lurking around

We might be able to make it for a night or two of cruisin (will be a bit late for good road cruisin but hey) and some hiking. I can't take any substantial time until Ernie Caldwell is finished.

This is a croc with a prized roadkill hog, reported taken 20 miles South of Naples in a state park....
