I have a heat panel in Gauge's cage with a large water bowl underneath it. However, I'm still having trouble keeping my humidity up. I covered up the vents in the back with plastic wrap and spray the cage many times a day. Is there an easier/less time consuming way to keep the humidity up without the constant spraying? I have aspen bedding in there and the humidity normally stays at 40% without spraying. There's also a humidifier in the room but when I took the cover off the vents it didn't seem to help because it's so much warmer in the cage. (outside air is 75 for the corns, ambient boa cage is 82, boa basking spot is low 90's)

What? I have a UTH under the tank with a large water bowl on top. Do you have any lights?

I currently have my near 4' boa in a 40 gal breeder which will be upgraded to a boaphile soon. I have two UTHs, both controlled by a rheostat (92F and 80F is what I try to keep them at).
 
What size water dish do you use? I had trouble keeping the humidity up in my boa's cage too. I solved it by adding a large, 6 quart sterlite tub at one end of the cage filled halfway up with water, and a small ceramic water dish over the heat source on the other end. My humidity stays at about %50 -%60, and that is on newspaper bedding.

I also use a humid hide when she sheds too.

Before I found that a damp cloth or papertowel place by the heat source will up the humidity considerably as well.
 
Thanks for the ideas! :) I think I'm gonna try the cypress mulch. The water bowl under the heat panel is pretty big, about a foot in diameter. Gauge loves to hide under it. Hopefully the mulch will help. Where's the best place to find a decently large bag?

WalMart. :grin01: Seriously. That's where I get mine from. Just microwave it first with a cup of water in the center to get rid of all the nasties that might be hiding away in there.

Nope! Gardening! When I say "mulch", I mean that stuff you spread in your garden. :)

I fill a 6 qt tub, put a cup of water (like... water... in a cup) in the center, and microwave for 1.5 minutes. If it's alive when it goes in, it ain't when it comes out!
 
I sense a trip to Walmart within the hour.. once cookies are out of the oven. Lol. Thanks so much Robbie! :)
 
Haha! That can be arranged. ;)

In the mean time, here's a pic of the new digs. Gauge was dark and fussy for being woken up. Lol.
