Dancing gone wrong.

OK I have not read everyone's reply but I saw the video and I find it very sad. I am the mother of a 10 year old daughter and 12 and 14 year old sons.

I danced from the time I was 6 until 16 (back in the 70's and 80's). Never would any of my teachers have chosen a suggestive song or moves like that for any of us. And we never had occasion to wear costumes where we were almost entirely naked! I certainly wouldn't have felt comfortable performing wearing a bikini! Please don't tell me that there are no songs out there that are not sexual that they could have chosen. Don't kid yourselves that there are no dance moves today that are not sexual.

Those girls are amazing dancers! But I am appalled by the dance! Don't kid yourselves that these girls don't know that the moves they are doing are sexual. They may not have the capacity to say it is sexual but they know that it is how girls are expected to dress and behave to be successful. They are inundated with pop culture showing young successful pop icons who dress provocatively, sing provocatively and dance provocatively. I have a hard time thinking about any role models on TV, in the music industry or in film that are not portrayed as sex symbols or just plain old stupid.

Look at the images that are out there for girls today. They have moved women back into cave man days. In real life my daughter may live in a home where her mother brings home the bacon and her dad takes her to school and makes her lunches but the really cool images to her are the likes of Brittany Spears, Lady Gaga and who knows what other abomination!

luckycharm318;1118964 I agree that parents should make big decisions for children said:
My daughter wants to play the Sax, she loves the sax, but she isn't old enough to play the sax her fingers don't reach the keys and I cannot imagine that she has lungs that are big enough yet. In a few years when she is big enough she will get sax lessons, right now she is taking piano. When the time comes for her to play the sax she will have a strong musical foundation already in place.

As a parent I have to teach my daughters what is ok and what is not ok. Just because she wants to play sax that doesn't mean that I am going to get her a sax and put her in lessons today no matter what. That would be irresponsible of me. It is my job to find ways to nurture her passions while also guiding her and making sure she stays within the realms of reason. The same thing with these girls, if they want to dance let them dance, but there are a lot of routines that can be done without pelvic thrusting and a bikini.

Yeah its a little inappropriate but what the heck.

I didn't have much of a problem with the costume, more the dancing. Since the costumes have become a focus and defended as necessary for modern dance (proved not, Martha Graham as in 'mother of modern dance') hip hop, dance crews... I went to youtube and ddi a little research there are numerous hip hop, dance crews... includig the winners of Britain's got talent who don't find it necessary to wear scimpy costumes.
SI those babies are probably just looking at their next milk source, nothing bad there.:sidestep:

I am. And I can't get that darn song out of my head now, for the life of me.

Scary clown in slow-mo cracks me up every time. I mean every time.

Pecked that TV like a chicken.

And I assumed from your avatar that you were possessed of a more sophisticated sense of humour. I guess we all know what happens when we assume...
:grin01:

Ooohhhhh....low blow, Ken....and coming from you......
You set me up, and then took me down.
I feel like putty in your hands.

You make me feel like a neanderthal,...or a cro magnon at a minimum.

I will try to re-elevate/re-animate my sense of humor to more lofty altitudes. Thanks for the reality check my friend.

NOTE : I am at work, and functioning full volume on the chupacabra channel, which might explain my low altitude flying.

Judge not, my friend, lest...
