MICE DIRECT RECALL

Guess I should be glad I tend to use RodentPro when I need to supplement what I produce myself. If anyone local is in need of some non-MiceDirect mice to last until they get replacements, just let me know. I may not have all the sizes, but I just got a bunch of pinkies in last week with some chicks and might be able to scrounge a few rat pups to feed large adult snakes. I'm low on mid-size stuff, however.

Great, I just stocked up on Mice Direct fuzzies, hoppers and weanlings at the last show...

I may actually have some of those lots in my freezer! Oh dear oh dear. Well, I'm not sick and neither are the snakes, so I will check the bags & toss anything I haven't used.

In that link though it says something about 7/26. I emailed them to find out if it affected mice bought at the FIRE show on 7/18. I will let you know when I hear back.

I stocked my freezer a couple months ago from them!! I hope I don't have to ditch any since I surely can't afford another $200 order right now. I wonder if they will give refunds/credit?

Is anyone reading the press release. One, if I understand it right, the affected animals are those AFTER 7-26. Also, it provides contact information for you to get replacements, you don't loose any money, they replace them IF you have stock during the affected dates.

That said, I use and will CONTINUE to use Mice Direct. I have never had any problems with their product. It is always professionally packaged, shipped timely and effectively. The staff has always been very polite and accommodating to me. Things like this happen from time to time. To tell you the truth, I am surprised it isn't more commonly exposed in that industry. Remember, everyone has their "I'll never buy from them again" suppliers. How about opening packs of fresh rodents from a supplier mentioned in this thread and it smelling like urine in every bag.

Just trying to offer perspective

Thank you. I did read the release and that is why I emailed per the contact instructions to double check on mice bought at the Orlando FIRE show on 7/18. It looked to me as well as if it were only stock sold after 7/26 but figured wouldn't hurt to double check.

We almost always order our mice from Mice Direct and have never had any issues with the stock or their service. I will continue to use them in the future as well.

The recall says products shipped after 7/24 will be irradiated, to kill any potential Salmonella. I'm pretty sure this means anything shipped BEFORE than is potentially contaminated. On a related note, we all know many reptiles carry Salmonella already; does anyone know if this could make the snakes sick or if it's only a human concern?

So, just out of curiosity and so I can be as safe as possible, occasional urine and poop chunks are, or aren't, worse than salmonella and/or irradiation? :shrugs:

How the hell do you contaminate rodents with salmonella?

And since when are you supposed to heat rodents in the microwave?

I can't imagine HOW those would get mixed with rodents. Or an employee isn't washing their hands at all/very well.

...Ew.

They could have easily taken the remains of the hatched eggs and gave them to the mice without first baking the shells.

If my post sounded like I was dissing Mice Direct and saying that RodentPro is much better, you are mistaken and I apologize. I was simply stating that I am just lucky that I don't have to deal with yet another recall this time around and that if anyone local who was unlucky enough to have been affected could get a supply of whatever mice they might need from me knowing that this time around, the contents of my freezer are safe. I have nothing against Mice Direct. In fact, I have never used them. But I have used various other sources, find no difference in any of them except for price, and in my current financial situation, that is high on my priority list. Most animals empty their bladders and colon when they die or shortly after death, no matter how peaceful or how violent, so any predatory creature is bound to have to deal with it more times than not.

Has anyone found out yet what mice direct is doing about this. I got a order a month ago from them. I have not checked the product codes on my bags yet thou.
