Snakes in the kitchen ?

I live alone and don't spend too much time in there usually but I am cooking often enough. It can get a bit smokey in there at times , wondering if I decide to keep snakes in there if they might go crazy if they detect smoke.

No. Corn are pretty mellow and not bothered much by smells unrelated to their natural foods.

I would be more worried about them getting hot if you did a lot of cooking. I cook everyday and so my kitchen gets really hot. But if you don't cook much then it might not be as much a big deal.

I wouldn't be as concerned about the "smell" being the problem, as I would the fact that the particles in smoke are probably not healthy for them to be exposed to on a regular basis.

I have three snakes right in the kitchen. But I turn on a fan if I burn something!

Hmm, when I had birds, the big no-no was using anything with teflon in it. It doesn't take much heat on teflon for it to begin to release toxic chemicals into the air. It's been known to kill birds.

I can't imagine it's any better for the snakes. I have a few teflon things and I rarely used them with the birds around and now that I don't have them anymore, I don't really intend to buy a bunch of teflon again. If it can kill birds, it can't be great for us to breathe either, right?

I'll probably still use my waffle maker from time to time, but I always make sure all the fans are going. Luckily we live in a house with high ceilings, ceiling fans and good airflow.

I think the most important thing about snakes in the kitchen is proper placement. I immediately thought of this because my kitchen has LOTS of windows. I don't think there's a place in it where I could place a snake tank out of direct sunlight. My kitchen's pretty small though..

Just make sure that the tank isn't next to a window or where direct sunlight can reach the tank and heat it up, and you should be good!

Another good point. I forgot because I don't have/use anything with teflon, for this reason.
It depends on the kitchen, it could be feasable, depending on the circumstances.
Since the OP said it can be pretty smokey in the kitchen, I personally would not house a snake in the kitchen, even if other hazards were not an issue. JMO :)

The way my kitchen's set up , they would be away from sunlight and the general flow of any smoke. I'm getting an air purifier soon enough and just to be safe I could move it next to any vivs while I'm cooking.

Another vote for no problem. In (well, very near) the kitchen for 4 years and no problems here. Plenty of smoke, at times, but no problems :)

He seems to like the smell of pizza right now.
