For Those Who Like Sand Boas...

I cam home from the Mars show last weekend with a girlfriend for my Kenyan. ( who I recently found out was male NOT female! ) I still want to take her to my vet to double check that yes she is definitely female. But I went to the show specifically to come home with a FEMALE sand boa, hopefully of a contrasting color to my normal Kenyan, Franco. Well the booth right by the entrance had 3 adult Kenyans. I had them probe each one just to be on the safe side. The only anery was female and I'm VERY HAPPY with her color! ( I'm pretty picky with the anerys I've seen. )

So far here are my first pics of her. Better ones to follow.

Here's a pic of her intended. But he's bigger than her right now and they're both adults. Shouldn't it be the other way around????

Oh. And how do you brumate???? I've never done this before. All three of us are virgins here!;)

The female should definitely be bigger. Any idea on the ages?

I'm jealous. I want an anery KSB so bad, but I'm also very picky about what kind of looks it has to has. I want a very striking black and white, none of that chocolatey brown mess :D

The male is 3ish definitely and a porker! The guy I bought the lady from said she was 5 yrs or older. He'd had her for some years. He also told me she was a bit nippy but I have not found that to be true. Jumpy yes! Nippy no. I've been giving her a lot of quiet, slow handling.

I've decided to name her Svaha. Its a native American word for the space of time between the lightning and the thunder. I have no idea what Indian language it is but maybe someone here can enlighten me???

She looks pretty small to be 5 years old. What's her weight?
My 3-year-old female just finally passed the 100g mark. She's a late bloomer.

My girl's named Rio.. as in "Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand..." (even though she dances on the aspen, but still...)

Yeah well I guess I need to quit procrastinating and get a kitchen scale! I wish Wally-world near me, carried them.

P.S. Oh yes, I remember Duran Duran! My parents were absolutely horrified by "Hungry Like a Wolf"!

My wallyworld does. I don't think they carry the one I got from them way back when though. Look in the kitchen-gadgets section?

The female should be much larger than the male. No brumation is required for breeding, lower the temps 10* & shorten the light cycle. Roy Stockwell has an excellent thread on visually sexing sand boas.
