Love her! It seems you and I both have a thing for VMS animals - I'm certainly starting to have quite a collection of them, including a pewter male and phantom female. And I know what you mean about them looking het. bloodred, and I figure only breeding trials will tell for sure! Anyway, stunning snake, and beautiful photography.

Well, Stephanie (Desertanimal)'s phantom sparked my love for the morph years back, so just spreading the favor!
EXACTLY!!! Regardless of all the "high end morphs" out there, Phantom is up there among my favorites. I even think that adding Diffused (which I am normally a HUGE fan of) would take something away from Olive's beauty. I LOVE the crazy pattern.

Thanks for the compliments everyone, I LOVE Olive so much!! Hehehe, I saw "Easy A" last night and the main character's name is Olive. I kept thinking, "that's my snake, that's my snake!"

I think it's hilarious and awesome that not only do we both have VMS snakes, we both have a Phantom and a Pewter!! I'm going to search back in your old threads
, but as a refresher, did we figure out if they're from the same bloodlines? Every time I go look at Sean's snakes for sale I see something I want. My latest was a realllly nice looking normal Motley het for Charcoal!!
Oh, and then a NICE Golddust, looks dorsally like a homo motley, yet labled as a het!
Almost thankfully after the 5th or 6th time of gazing longingly at them they sell. I can't afford to be paying shipping at every whim!

Even if our VMS Phantoms are not het for Blood (perhaps it's the Masque gene manifesting), they'd sure make great starter projects!!
One thing I LOVE about Olive is her lack of yellow. She has a hint of yellow tinting on her neck, but generally I can only pick it up with my Macro lens. Also, believe it or not, at her 40g she's actually a yearling now. She was born in July 09. That actually gives me some hope that even though she's small she's rather far along in her pigment development. I guess that probably depends on sheds though..
Kind of off topic, but I just picked up a little babe at an expo who'd been born in June. He can't be more than 5 grams, and according to his feeding chart, he's only been fed 3 times. Once a month. :uhoh:
I'm assuming this is what happened with Olive.

I don't know if we ever checked, but I'm going to bet that they probably are! I still have the numbers for mine, the pewter being I029-02M and the phantom being I080a-02F. Still have yours?
I have the same problem, and in fact I just picked up a few of his left over 2009 lavender morphs. I'd post the links, but it appears he's quicker about taking those off the site after they've been sold. If he hadn't upped the free shipping price to $350, I probably would've only ended up with two, but now I've got a new lavender, lavender stripe, and ultramel lavender to my name!
My girl Jane (phantom) is definitely starting to show a bit of yellow, but it's so pale it's sort of hard to tell, and I love it on her anyway. I wasn't actually expecting it, but I'm certainly not disappointed! I'm excited to eventually find out if she's het blood. And all of my VMS animals are a little small as well. Small but sturdy it would seem. Some animals just take a little while to get going, or they started out small. One of the first hatchlings I ever produced was only 3.5 grams to start out with, but she's now the third biggest corn snake I own, the only ones surpassing her being her parents. Plus, at a breeding facility, I'm sure they only feed them as often as is necessary, which is fair since they've got hundreds of animals to take care of and snakes don't really suffer all that much from a somewhat stunted diet.

Guess not on the Pewters. Oak's number is I035a-01m. I should have guessed that though.. your guy is simply AWESOME! Oak's pretty, and a really great example of the morph, but you've got something really special in the Pewter department with Langdon.
Olive is I080-01F though! Hrm... there's no "a" in there.. perhaps a double clutch? They do look rather similar. That's pretty sweet!!! They probably are from the same parents, or maybe even the same clutch. I remember that there were some darker Phantoms available at the time as well.. with different numbers.
Yea, that's what I've thought as well. Just makes me want to get em right when they hatch so I can start them out quicker! *sigh*, Just added a little Lav Blood to my collection, and I have another pair (a sweet Normal ph mot, anery, sunkissed and a male Sunkissed Mot) on the way -ish-, so I need to be good!
I definitely agree that sparse feeding is much less consequential than power feeding! :bomb:

Olive is fresh shed!!! She's looking very interesting after this last shed too. I used the technique that JimGERcream told me about and it worked!! This has been my most successful fall photo shoot ever! ..except that my camera was having weird focal problems. I still managed to get a few shots to turn out though.
Her side pattern is starting to really fade away now. No known Bloodred in her genes, but I'm starting to think that I'll eat a mouse butt first if she's not het diffused!
Not only is the pattern fading away, but her sides are also looking kind of blue tinted.
A wrong eye in focus head shot.. ah well! She's so elegant.
Here's one that was taken with flash, so it's a little more washed out, but I love the tongue. Sassy girl!
Do you guys think that she's looking kind of fat? She was fed on Saturday, so I think that might be part of it, but she just doesn't look as firm to me as she should. It's weird, her and Oak are on the same feeding scheduled, and he is very tight and muscley, and she is kind of squishy.
I am remembering this from the past, and I'm starting to think that maybe females store more fat then males do.
Should I be exercising her more? What do you guys do to exercise your "lazy" females? :noevil:
Anyway, hope you enjoyed. I'm a little worried that her shape is more triangular than bread loaf, but I think she looks great! Unfortunately mean Mr. Mustard must have visited her in between her last shed, because she now has a speckling of yellow along her neck. It's not a whole lot, and it didn't even show up in the pictures, but I have a feeling it will just get worse!

Hi Jessicat,
I don't know if I'd classify my "Evie" as lazy, but she certainly does have a fat asp! She was already like that when we got her just a month ago.
We take her out every night and man our positions at either end of a 30 foot hallway. She gets placed in the center and we let her roam the hallway for at least 30 minutes.
I've also changed her feedings from 2 rat weanlings a week (the shop we bought her from was feeding her that way, as they thought she was gravid), down to one adult mouse every two weeks.
Keep us posted...she's a beauty!

I feel like I'm definitely going to have to borrow your technique for this shoot. The leaves look amazing! Unfortunately, though, I don't think I'm going to be taking a whole lot of pictures over the next month or so. My room only gets enough light for about an hour a day, during which I'm rarely home due to classes, and I don't have anywhere else to use. :/
Anyway, loving the update!

Yea I guess if Olive develops more yellow it won't be terrible. I don't really like yellow on grey snakes. I think it can be cool if it is only within their saddles/ side pattern. lol, when I saw the yellow I kind of freaked out and stared at it, but of course it isn't even showing in the picture!! hah
Oregon winter is about to set in here, and it will be raining non stop soon. I'll have to figure out something different as well, so for now, I'm getting as many outdoor shots as I can!

Also, I'm not sure what I'll do for exercise, and she isn't really fat.. I mean she's still growing, and one hopper a week isn't exactly going to make her morbidly obese! She's really quite small for her age as well. I just don't like that I can see her spine yet she has some extra meat on her sides. I think females are shaped a little different than males though.
Oak needs to give her some of his muscle, he could stand to lose some! He has started flailing wildly when I take him out. He's STRONG! :uzi:

Olive is finally fresh shed! Not sure if I missed her December shed or what.. odd.
Anyway, here are a few snap shots from the day. By the time I'd noticed her shed the lighting was already kind of bad for non flash photos, and I had a friend over, so I'll do a "good" photo shoot tomorrow probably.

Both are gorgeous! I love that your Phantom has such a minimal amount of yellow! Olive is starting to get the slightest bit of yellow on her neck, but it's pretty hard to notice, and actually almost compliments her.

That's so awesome!! I love finding out that I have a snake that's related to someone's. This is an ESPECIALLY amazing discovery though, because I have been wondering pretty much since I got her if Olive is het Blood. If she has a Pewter sibling.. well.. I think the odds are increased!
I've kind of wondered about the "a" as well.. I was thinking perhaps if a female double clutched then perhaps an a would be added to the first clutch? Just a theory.
